Killer Soup Review: Manoj Bajpayee emerges as the star of OTT space in 2023. Fans also enjoyed Manoj’s acting range in Gulmohar and Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai. The year has changed and Manoj’s first innings on OTT is Killer Soup.
After The Family Man, this is Manoj’s second web series and its director Abhishek Chaubey’s first web series. Abhishek has directed Manoj in the anthology film Re Ek Kahaani, but was the collaboration between Abhishek, Manoj and Konkana as impressive as they have been working separately?
The title Killer Soup indicates that there will be an important part of the story or that it will lead to some compromise. It starts with Swati Shetty (Konkona Sen Sharma) making paya soup (non-veg soup) for her businessman husband Prabhakar Shetty (Manoj Bajpayee) aka Prabhu.
Prabhu calls him a murderer. Actually, no one likes that soup. However, she is also learning how to cook. Swati’s dream is to open her own restaurant. Prabhakar’s lookalike Umesh Mehta massages him in the gym. Swati has an affair with Umesh.
Prabhakar is spying on his wife. He wants to open his own resort. His elder brother Arvind (Sayaji Shinde) refuses to invest money in it. The detective dies in an accident. Meanwhile, in a dramatic incident, Prabhakar gets murdered at the hands of Umesh. Both of them together threw his body in the forest. Swati introduced Umesh as her husband Prabhakar.
This is Abhishek Chaubey’s first web series as a director. This time he has taken the story from North India to South India. The story is based in a small town near Madurai. In the first episode, blackmailing, scam worth crores, Prabhu’s lookalike, real Prabhu being killed, spies taking photographs, becoming a victim of Swati’s evil eye, lay the foundation of the thrill of the story.
Then after the murder of the detective, sad-eyed Senior Inspector Hassan (Nassar) starts working on the investigation along with his colleague Constable Asha (Shilpa Mudbi) and overzealous Sub Inspector Thupalli (Anbuthasan), which increases the excitement. events. Is. However, after a while, Killer Soup falls into an old pattern. The dark side of the characters in Abhishek Chaubey’s films is visible here too.
Manoj has displayed his talent in the double role of Umesh and Prabhakar. The methods Manoj has adopted to keep these two characters completely different from each other reflect his experience. Konkana has no equal in bringing Swati’s cleverness on screen.
The biggest reason to watch this series is the direction of Manoj Bajpayee, Konkona Sen Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey. Manoj and Konkana are working together for the first time. However, Abhishek is working with both of them in different projects.
The weak point of the series is the characters’ dialects. To give a southern touch, Manoj and Konkana’s characters speak Tamil at times, but then they revert to their natural Hindi, spoiling the taste of the killer soup.
However, it also has some South Indian artists, who retain the South Indian flavour. The problem is that in this black comedy show you keep waiting for the comedy moment. Such moments rarely come in any series when they surprise the audience. The artists do their work separately, but together they are unable to create the impact that is expected from the presence of artists like Manoj and Konkana.
